Since they explicitly mention Kotlin, I wonder how it will fare in the future with all the new Java additions. I guess at least it will remain an Android staple.

Google's "you must use Kotlin or leave" is what made it relevant, otherwise it would have been yet another JVM language with minor relevance.

And even that they had to back down, as Android was starting to lose Java libraries ecosystem, as everyone started to move beyond Java 8.
