I'm particularly excited by the idea of Apple adding iPhone type security to their laptops.

I get all the counterarguments about owning your own device and freedom to tinker.

But I, personally, would be willing to make that sacrifice. Particularly since it's pretty easy to get totally open devices, whereas getting a secure laptop is not so easy.
